Fortnite is set to return to Google Play Store worldwide after Google introduced major revisions to its billing system and fee structure for mobile applications. The decision follows long standing disputes between Epic Games and Google over app store policies and in app payment rules. The popular battle royale game had been removed from Google Play Store in 2020 after Epic Games launched its own direct payment system within the application, bypassing Google’s billing service and triggering a legal confrontation over platform fees and distribution rules.

Google announced that developers will now be allowed to use their own billing systems alongside the existing Google Play billing platform. The company will also permit application developers to guide users to their own websites for purchases, a move that offers greater flexibility in handling transactions within mobile applications. In addition to these policy changes, Google confirmed that it has reduced the service fees charged on in app purchases as part of a broader revision of its app marketplace framework. These changes address long standing concerns from developers regarding commission structures and payment restrictions within the Android ecosystem.

Epic Games and Google reached a settlement agreement late last year following several years of legal disputes related to app store competition and payment processing. As part of this resolution, Fortnite began returning to the platform in stages. The game was restored to Google Play Store in the United States in December, marking the first phase of its re entry to the official Android application marketplace. The company has now confirmed that the global rollout will follow, allowing Android users around the world to access the title directly through Google Play once again.

Fortnite remains one of the most widely played online games globally and its absence from the official Android marketplace for several years had forced users to install the application through alternative distribution channels. The upcoming return to Google Play Store is expected to simplify access for Android users and restore the game’s presence within the platform’s primary ecosystem. The revised billing options and lower fees introduced by Google are also expected to influence how developers manage transactions and monetization strategies across mobile applications, particularly within the gaming sector where in app purchases represent a significant share of revenue.
