The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Rawalpindi has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal SIM card activation. Acting on intelligence provided by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the FIA conducted a well-coordinated operation resulting in the apprehension of a suspect allegedly involved in unauthorized SIM activation.

Led by Inspector Badar Shahzad, the raid saw the suspect taken into custody, with authorities seizing mobile phones and VSAT devices linking him to the illicit SIM business. This operation is part of an ongoing crackdown targeting those engaged in fraudulent SIM activations.

Last month, three other suspects were also detained based on PTA intelligence, with authorities recovering a cache of items including mobile phones, laptops, VSAT devices, and a significant number of silicon thumb impressions. These materials are vital evidence in the investigation.

In a separate incident last month, the same group of suspects was found in possession of 11,000 digital thumbprints and 3,246 illegal active mobile phone SIMs. Their modus operandi involved using fake silicon thumb impressions to activate microfinance banking accounts for fraudulent purposes.

The arrest of the latest suspect marks the beginning of a thorough investigation into the network behind these illegal operations. Authorities are committed to dismantling the entire chain involved in SIM fraud, ensuring the safety and security of mobile phone users nationwide.
