Travellers flying with Emirates and flydubai will soon experience some of the world’s fastest in-flight internet as both carriers introduce free Starlink Wi-Fi on their fleets starting late 2025. Emirates will begin by equipping select Boeing 777 aircraft with ultra-fast connectivity in November, before expanding to its full fleet by mid-2027. Airbus A380 aircraft will receive installations beginning early 2026, offering passengers on long-haul flights uninterrupted access to high-speed internet throughout their journeys. flydubai is set to follow in 2026, providing the service across its entire Boeing 737 fleet, marking a major shift in regional aviation connectivity.

The introduction of Starlink technology allows travellers to stream movies, make video calls, browse social media, and work remotely without interruptions. Both airlines confirmed that the service will be completely free, with no payment or loyalty membership required, and one-click access available to all cabin classes. The next-generation satellite system relies on thousands of low-Earth-orbit satellites positioned around 550 kilometres above the planet, much closer than traditional geostationary satellites. This design ensures minimal latency, delivering ground-like speeds even at cruising altitude.

Passengers can expect download speeds ranging from 100 to 250 Mbps, upload speeds of 10 to 25 Mbps, and latency as low as 25 to 44 milliseconds, supporting high-quality video calls, lag-free gaming, and seamless online work. Business travellers will be able to join meetings, transfer large files, and remain productive mid-flight, while leisure travellers can enjoy streaming platforms or online gaming with minimal delay. The performance of Starlink in early deployments reportedly surpasses some home broadband connections, signaling a new standard for air travel connectivity in the region.

Emirates and flydubai join other global carriers, including Qatar Airways, in adopting Starlink technology, highlighting a regional trend towards next-generation in-flight internet. Analysts note that the widespread implementation of satellite-based connectivity represents a significant step in transforming passenger experiences, enabling both entertainment and work-related activities during flights. With the rollouts planned over the next two years, UAE travellers will soon have consistent access to high-speed, low-latency internet, aligning the region with international standards for premium in-flight digital services.
