Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Friday to discuss strategies for promoting Pakistan’s IT exports and enhancing the country’s presence in the global technology market. The session focused on leveraging IT and related services as a key driver for economic growth, revenue generation, and strengthening foreign exchange reserves. Officials from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) presented a detailed overview of current export trends, market opportunities, and initiatives aimed at expanding Pakistan’s IT footprint internationally.

During the meeting, MoITT outlined proposals to support IT companies in scaling operations, tapping into emerging markets, and adopting advanced technologies to meet global standards. The presentation highlighted Pakistan’s potential to become a major IT services hub by promoting software development, digital solutions, and technology-enabled services. Emphasis was placed on improving industry infrastructure, facilitating access to international clients, and encouraging investment in skill development to meet the growing demand for technology professionals.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the critical role of IT and related sectors in shaping Pakistan’s industrial future. He noted that a strong IT industry could contribute significantly to the national economy and generate sustainable foreign exchange earnings. He also underlined the importance of coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to create international linkages, attract foreign clients, and promote Pakistan’s technology capabilities on global platforms. According to Dar, expanding IT exports would not only enhance revenue but also create employment opportunities, foster innovation, and position Pakistan as a competitive player in the digital economy.

The meeting was attended by the minister of information technology and senior officials from MoITT, who discussed actionable steps to implement export-enhancing policies. Key focus areas included improving regulatory frameworks, facilitating international collaborations, providing incentives for IT exporters, and integrating technology education with industry requirements. The session concluded with a consensus on strengthening support mechanisms for IT companies, exploring new markets, and increasing visibility for Pakistani technology services worldwide. By prioritizing IT export growth, the government aims to leverage Pakistan’s talent pool, advance digital transformation, and reinforce the country’s role in the global technology ecosystem.
