In a recent development for Pakistan’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, Bilal Khan Afridi has been appointed as the Secretary of Entrepreneurship for the Youth Parliament’s Federal Cabinet. This new role places Afridi at the helm of advocating for the interests of startups within government circles, where he will work to shape policies that encourage innovation and foster an environment conducive to the growth of young entrepreneurs in Pakistan.

Afridi’s appointment comes at a crucial time as the country’s startup ecosystem continues to expand, with an increasing number of tech-focused businesses entering the market. His primary duty in this newly established position will be to serve as a bridge between the government and the startup community, ensuring that the concerns, ideas, and needs of entrepreneurs are effectively conveyed to policymakers. This position allows him to directly influence the creation of policies that can help address common challenges faced by startups, such as access to funding, regulatory support, and market access.

According to Afridi, one of his main goals will be to actively solicit input from entrepreneurs and the broader startup ecosystem, helping to ensure their voices are heard and their concerns are addressed in the policymaking process. His vision is to create a more inclusive and dynamic system for startup growth that encourages young talent to innovate and succeed in Pakistan.

On January 2, 2025, Afridi officially took the oath of office during a ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel, Karachi, which was presided over by Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani. The event marked a key moment in the country’s ongoing efforts to integrate youth-driven innovation into the national policy landscape. In his remarks following the oath-taking, Afridi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to Pakistan’s entrepreneurial future. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector to create sustainable growth opportunities for startups.

In his new capacity, Afridi will work closely with other stakeholders, including government agencies, investors, and startup accelerators, to foster an environment where innovation thrives.

The appointment of Bilal Khan Afridi as the Secretary of Entrepreneurship for the Youth Parliament is a promising step forward in the evolution of Pakistan’s startup ecosystem. His leadership and commitment to advancing the interests of young entrepreneurs will likely play a pivotal role in shaping the future of innovation in the country.
