Balochistan has launched digital marriage registration services, and the first Marriage Registration Certificate (MRC) has been issued at the Haji Ghaibi Road Union Council in Ward 22, which is under Quetta Metropolitan Corporation. The Balochistan government and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) jointly introduced digital registration for nikah registrars and a digital solemnization module. The two facilities cover the licensing of registrars through a digital process and the electronic submission of marriage information to the authorities, and they were introduced after a pilot phase had been completed in Quetta.
Under the pilot, Maulvi Samiullah became the first digitally registered nikah registrar in the province, and he received his license on October 28, 2026. He handled the first nikah registration through the new platform. Three officials played key roles in completing the pilot, who were Dr Nausheen Khan, deputy director at Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, Dawood Momand, assistant director for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) at NADRA, and Muhammad Arif, field officer for Quetta district. Their work covered the local government side, the technical side of civil registration and the field operations in the district.
Under the new system, registered nikah registrars can submit marriage details and the required documents to the relevant union council through the Pak ID mobile app of NADRA. After approval, the system automatically generates the Marriage Registration Certificate, which the registrar, the bride and the groom can access, download and print through their own Pak ID accounts. This means that the certificate does not have to be prepared by hand at the union council, and the parties to the marriage can obtain it directly from their accounts once the application has been approved.
The initiative aims to make marriage registration more transparent, efficient, secure and faster, and it also seeks to reduce manual processing and to provide modern digital services. According to reports on the launch, it is intended to simplify the process, reduce administrative delays, improve the security of records and bring transparency to the issuance of official marriage certificates. The provincial government has also indicated that it plans to extend digital methods to other administrative services, so the digital nikah registration may be followed by similar systems for other services of the province.
