ASUS ROG and XREAL have revealed full pricing and availability details for the ROG XREAL R1, a pair of gaming glasses that pack a 240Hz micro-OLED display with a 0.01ms response time into a frame weighing just 91 grams. Preorders will begin on the official website on May 17, and the glasses will cost USD 849, with interested buyers able to register their interest in advance through the XREAL store. The announcement confirms what had been teased for several months, giving enthusiasts concrete details on a product that has generated considerable interest for its attempt to bring monitor-grade display specifications to a wearable form factor.

The ROG XREAL R1 is also designed to play nicely with the ROG Ally handheld gaming console. Users simply plug the glasses into the Ally with a USB-C cable, and it beams gameplay directly to the lenses. While in glasses mode, the ROG Ally screen will show a control panel instead of the game, letting users easily tweak settings on the fly and giving the portable console’s display something to show while gaming through the glasses. This tight integration with the ROG Ally is a notable differentiator from competing gaming glasses products, which typically function as generic display accessories without the kind of dedicated software support that allows for seamless switching between the glasses view and a companion control interface on the host device.

The 240Hz micro-OLED specification is the headline achievement of the ROG XREAL R1, placing it well above what most gaming glasses on the market currently offer. Micro-OLED panels deliver the contrast and black levels associated with standard OLED technology but in a compact, high-density format suited to near-eye display applications, and the combination of 240Hz refresh rate and 0.01ms response time addresses the motion clarity requirements of fast-paced competitive gaming in a way that lower-spec gaming glasses have historically been unable to match. Fitting this level of display performance into a 91-gram frame is the core engineering achievement that separates the ROG XREAL R1 from its predecessors in the category.

At USD 849, the ROG XREAL R1 sits at the premium end of the gaming glasses market, a positioning consistent with the display specifications it offers but one that will limit its initial audience to enthusiasts willing to invest significantly in a wearable gaming display experience that remains a relatively niche product category despite growing interest from handheld gaming console users looking for a more immersive alternative to the small built-in screens on devices like the ROG Ally.
