Xiaomi is preparing HyperOS 4, its next major software platform, based on Google’s upcoming Android 17 release, with the update expected to reach eligible devices beginning in September 2026. HyperOS 4 is the next version of Xiaomi’s user interface, expected to launch in the fall of 2026, with the stable rollout anticipated in September, reaching the Xiaomi 17 series and Xiaomi 15 series first, followed by POCO smartphones and Redmi K series, with the staged rollout expanding to remaining devices by the end of 2026. Xiaomi accidentally leaked HyperOS 4 in a recent global bug report, and fresh reports hint at the platform being based on a self-developed architecture that retains native Android services, though the official release timeline is still unconfirmed.
The final version of Android 17, codenamed Cinnamon Bun, is expected to be released by Google in June or July 2026. Google has changed its development approach and dropped the old Developer Preview scheme in favour of a continuous Canary channel, allowing new features to be rolled out and tested faster. In April 2026, Google released Android 17 Beta 4, described as the last planned beta build before the stable release. Google Pixel devices will receive the update first, after which the rollout will extend to phones from Samsung, Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, OnePlus, and other brands. Xiaomi will distribute the new version as part of HyperOS 4 built on top of Android 17, so the list of supported HyperOS devices will match the Android 17 eligible device list.
According to the latest reports, the Xiaomi 17 lineup will be the first to receive Android 17-based HyperOS 4, most likely in the third quarter of 2026. After that, other flagship phones get priority, followed by mid-range Xiaomi devices. Redmi and POCO mid-range devices are expected to receive the Android 17 update in late 2026, while flagship models of Redmi will receive HyperOS 4 in phased rollouts between September and December 2026. Budget and entry-level devices may receive the update in the first quarter of 2027, with delays attributed to hardware optimisation requirements and regional rollout strategies. On the features side, HyperOS 4 is expected to deliver smoother animations, enhanced artificial intelligence features, stronger security tools, and better cross-device connectivity.
Over 70 Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices are expected to be eligible for the HyperOS 4 update based on Android 17, though the list is not yet officially confirmed by Xiaomi and some policy changes may occur before the final rollout. Devices that received HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 as their last major operating system update will continue to receive security patches for a period of time depending on the device’s update policy, even after being dropped from the HyperOS 4 eligible list. Xiaomi has not yet released a definitive global update schedule, and the device list currently circulating is considered a very likely selection based on Xiaomi’s update patterns rather than an officially confirmed plan from the company itself. Users are advised to monitor Xiaomi’s official channels for confirmed eligibility details as the Android 17 stable release approaches.
