Xiaomi has officially joined the growing list of Android manufacturers bringing Apple AirDrop compatibility to Android’s native Quick Share system, announcing through its official HyperOS account on X that AirDrop support is now available on its devices running HyperOS 3. Xiaomi joins Google and Samsung in offering this capability, with the company’s announcement specifically referencing the Xiaomi 17T Pro as the highlighted device, though other HyperOS 3 devices may also receive the feature as the rollout progresses. The update allows Xiaomi users to wirelessly send photos, files, and documents directly to nearby iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks through the Quick Share interface, without requiring any third-party application to be installed on either device.
The AirDrop integration arriving on Xiaomi devices follows a broader rollout that Google confirmed in late 2025, expanding the feature to partners including Xiaomi, OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, and HONOR throughout 2026. The feature first appeared on Android with the Google Pixel 10 series several months ago, marking a significant moment in cross-platform file sharing between Android and Apple devices. Previously, Xiaomi users who wanted to transfer files to Apple devices had to rely on the Xiaomi Interconnectivity app, which required installation on both devices. With the new Quick Share integration, the transfer works through Google Play Services’ built-in Quick Share system, meaning no separate application download is needed on the iPhone or iPad.
On the Apple side, users will need to set AirDrop to “Everyone for 10 Minutes” for the Xiaomi device to detect and display the Apple device as an available recipient during a Quick Share session. The process is otherwise handled natively within Quick Share on the Xiaomi end, with nearby Apple devices appearing alongside other Android phones in the sharing interface. It remains unclear whether the feature is available across all Xiaomi devices running HyperOS 3 or only on specific models, and similar implementations from other Android manufacturers have required a dedicated software update before the feature became accessible, suggesting a staged rollout across the Xiaomi device portfolio is likely.
Given that the Xiaomi 17T Pro runs HyperOS 3 built on top of Android 16, it is expected that AirDrop support could soon extend to other high-end devices including the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17T Ultra, and Xiaomi 17T as the update rolls out more broadly. For the large number of users who regularly move between Xiaomi Android devices and Apple hardware for work or personal use, the elimination of the friction that has historically defined cross-ecosystem file transfers represents a meaningful quality-of-life improvement, bringing Xiaomi in line with what Samsung and Google have already made available to their respective user bases.
