Shibli Faraz, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, has urged the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) to complete the automation process as soon as possible in order to ensure that quality products are available to the masses at a fair price.

While chairing a meeting on Friday, the Federal Minister observed that while a regulatory framework and necessary laws and regulations on consumer goods standardisation were in place, weaknesses in the system and inadequate execution allowed sub-standard and low-quality products to flood the local market.

Shibli Faraz, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, has urged the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) to complete the automation process as soon as possible so that quality products can be made available to the general public at a reasonable cost.

The current standardisation procedure, according to the minister, was lengthy and difficult, including human interaction at several stages. According to him, the automated system would cover all parts of the process, from application to testing, and licencing would be done in a completely automated manner. It goes on to say that it will not only save applicants’ time, but will also keep them informed about the progress of their submitted applications.

A new model for grading products was also on cards that would determine the category of a certain product based on its quality, efficiency, and price, he said. Furthermore, he added that PSQCA was also working to develop a strategy for maintaining the quality and safety of vehicles being manufactured or assembled in Pakistan and fulfilling of required parameters.

Shibli Faraz responded to a question concerning electronic voting machines (EVM) by saying that EVM were being developed in Pakistan and that development had progressed to the advanced stages. Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that he desired a flawless polling procedure that was acceptable to all stakeholders so that no one could complain to the results and the democratic system could continue to work smoothly.
In response to an inquiry about members of parliament’s attitudes, the Federal Minister stated that opposition parties were disrupting the house’s processes in order to save their leadership.

During the prime minister’s speeches, as well as during the budget speech, he added, disturbances were generated. Furthermore, the PTI government wanted parliament to run smoothly and the democratic system to thrive and strengthen, but the opposition refused to listen or allow others to speak.

Pakistan is a democracy, and the electorate have to define the norms for elected representatives, he added.

In response to a question about the state of development in Sindh, the Federal Minister stated that the PPP-led Sindh government had received billions of rupees during its 13-year rule, but that the people of Sindh lacked even basic amenities such as clean water, education, and health care.

According to Shibli, the PTI government has earmarked record sums for Sindh, demonstrating Prime Minister Imran Khan’s dedication to the province’s development.
