The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has extended the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s automatic e-challan system to 14 additional locations across the city, aiming to strengthen traffic law enforcement and reduce road accidents in high traffic areas. The expansion adds to the existing network of automated cameras already operating at various points across the city.

A police spokesperson said the newly added camera network would issue automated fines directly to traffic violators without requiring officers to physically stop vehicles, an approach intended to encourage stricter compliance with traffic rules while reducing the likelihood of accidents caused by manual enforcement stops. The automated system is designed to detect violations in real time and process fines electronically, removing much of the human involvement traditionally required in issuing traffic citations.

The newly activated locations span several major roads across the city, including Abid Majeed Road near Army Medical College, Lane 4 and other points along Main Peshawar Road such as Raafi Mall, Chauhar Chowk and Chishtia Abad Turn, as well as Rawal Road near Benazir Bhutto Hospital. Additional cameras have been installed along Murree Road at Hameed Khan Chowk, Committee Chowk near the Fish Market, Bohar Bazaar opposite Naaz Cinema, and the Double Road Turn in Shalimar. Further installations cover Dhoke Khallo near Sixth Road, the Survey of Pakistan U-Turn on Murree Road, and two points along Main Adiala Road at Sanober City and the U-Turn Chowk near the Punjab Housing Authority.

The police spokesperson urged commuters to strictly observe posted speed limits and comply with traffic regulations, noting that public cooperation remains an important factor in maintaining a safer and better managed road network across the city. The expansion reflects the continued rollout of automated traffic enforcement technology across Rawalpindi, building on the broader Safe Cities Authority framework that has already introduced similar e-challan camera systems in other parts of Punjab, as authorities continue relying on digital monitoring tools to improve road safety and enforcement consistency across busy urban corridors.
