The Punjab government has prepared a plan to establish two dedicated Artificial Intelligence schools in Lahore at a total cost of Rs. 81 crore, as part of a wider push to modernise public education and align the province’s schooling infrastructure with the demands of a technology-driven economy.

According to official sources, the proposed schools will offer structured education in Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and advanced information technology, targeting students at an age where exposure to these disciplines can meaningfully shape career trajectories and technical aptitude. The project encompasses the development of smart classrooms, modern computer laboratories, and a range of technology-based learning facilities, creating a physical and digital environment designed specifically for practical, skills-oriented instruction rather than conventional academic delivery. Authorities are also considering a dedicated Artificial Intelligence training programme for teachers as part of the initiative, recognising that new infrastructure alone is insufficient without a faculty equipped to effectively deliver technology-focused content to students.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at preparing students for emerging technologies, digital skills, and future employment opportunities, with the specific goal of enabling them to compete in the global job market alongside graduates from technologically advanced economies. The proposed Artificial Intelligence schools are intended to play a broader role in shaping Punjab’s educational identity, serving as models that could eventually inform how technology integration is approached across a wider network of provincial schools. Authorities believe the project will help align Punjab’s education system with international standards and the workforce requirements of industries that are increasingly built around data, automation, and intelligent systems, areas where Pakistan has historically faced a shortage of practically trained graduates at scale.
