The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Collaborates with NHMP to Launch Travel Advisory SMS Service for Subscribers

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has partnered with the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) to introduce a travel advisory SMS service for mobile subscribers. The aim of this advisory is to promote caution and safety while traveling on highways and motorways, particularly in flood-affected areas. The service will provide important information and raise awareness among the public about avoiding unnecessary travel in regions where flood warnings have been issued.

The devastating floods in Pakistan have resulted in over 1,000 deaths since mid-June, as per official reports. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released figures indicating that nearly 120 people have lost their lives in flood-related incidents within the past 24 hours alone. The impact of the floods has been significant, with approximately 150 bridges washed away and over 3,451 km of roads partially damaged or completely destroyed since June 14.

Through this collaborative effort, the PTA and NHMP aim to utilize mobile technology to enhance public safety and provide timely information to travelers, ensuring they are well-informed about the risks associated with traveling in flood-affected areas.
