The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Huawei have taken a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s cybersecurity landscape by signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona. This strategic partnership underscores the commitment of both entities to enhancing cybersecurity resilience, fostering knowledge-sharing, and deploying advanced security solutions across Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.

The signing ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman PTA; Iqbal Choudry, Coordinator General COMSTECH; Jeff Wang, President of Huawei Global Cybersecurity and Privacy Department; Ethan Sun, CEO Huawei Pakistan; Ahmed Bilal Masud, Director Subsidiary Board and Deputy CEO; Sultan Mehmood, Chief Security Officer Huawei Gulf North; and Yu Shaoning, Vice CEO Huawei Pakistan. Their presence highlighted the significance of the collaboration and the shared vision for a more secure and resilient digital infrastructure.

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, emphasized the critical role of public-private partnerships in addressing emerging cybersecurity threats. He highlighted that in an era of increasing digital dependence, it is imperative for regulatory bodies and technology leaders to collaborate in fortifying national cybersecurity frameworks. The MoU signifies PTA’s proactive approach to strengthening Pakistan’s digital security through strategic alliances with global tech leaders like Huawei.

Jeff Wang, President of Huawei Global Cybersecurity and Privacy Department, reiterated Huawei’s dedication to enhancing cybersecurity in Pakistan. He emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in building a robust, resilient, and sustainable digital ecosystem. Huawei’s expertise in cybersecurity solutions and infrastructure will play a crucial role in mitigating risks and safeguarding critical digital assets.

The agreement outlines key areas of collaboration, including capacity building, knowledge exchange, and the deployment of cutting-edge cybersecurity technologies. By leveraging Huawei’s advanced security solutions and PTA’s regulatory oversight, the partnership aims to create a safer digital environment for businesses, government institutions, and individual users. This initiative will also contribute to Pakistan’s broader digital transformation goals, ensuring that cybersecurity remains a cornerstone of technological advancement.

With cyber threats evolving at an unprecedented rate, strengthening national cybersecurity capabilities has become a top priority for governments and private sector stakeholders alike. This MoU between PTA and Huawei marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward enhanced digital security, providing a framework for proactive threat management, risk mitigation, and sustainable cybersecurity development.

As Pakistan continues to expand its digital infrastructure, initiatives like this will be instrumental in ensuring a secure and resilient cyberspace. The partnership between PTA and Huawei is expected to drive long-term advancements in cybersecurity policies, workforce training, and technological solutions, ultimately paving the way for a safer digital future.
