Sony has officially revealed the PlayStation Plus Essential lineup for May 2026, announcing three titles that span football simulation, dark fantasy action, and hand-drawn platforming. The full PS Plus Essential May lineup includes Wuchang: Fallen Feathers for PlayStation 5, EA Sports FC 26 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, and Nine Sols for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, with all games going live on Tuesday, May 5 and available to claim until midnight on June 1. PlayStation Plus members also have until Monday night, May 4, to claim April’s outgoing lineup of Lords of the Fallen, Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream, and Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.
EA Sports FC 26, the latest entry in EA’s football simulation series that took over from the FIFA branding, launched worldwide in September 2025. On-pitch improvements include tighter dribbling, crisper passing, smarter artificial intelligence positioning, and overhauled goalkeeper animations, though the live-service elements and microtransactions in Ultimate Team remain a sticking point for many players. PlayStation Plus members will also receive an exclusive EA Sports FC 26 Icons Pack that can be redeemed while the game remains available through the subscription service. The game carries a 77 out of 100 Metascore average from critics for its PlayStation 5 release, though player reception has been considerably more mixed.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike action role-playing game from Chinese developer Leenzee Games, released in July 2025, set in a dark fantasy world inspired by late Ming-dynasty China and featuring fast-paced, combo-heavy combat with a deep skill tree. The game sold over one million copies, though its full ownership was transferred to Digital Bros after Leenzee Games shut down shortly after the game’s launch. Rounding out the lineup is Nine Sols, widely regarded as the standout title of the three. Developed by Taiwanese studio Red Candle Games, Nine Sols originally launched on PC in mid-2024 before coming to consoles in November of that year. It is a two-dimensional hand-drawn Metroidvania with combat deeply inspired by Sekiro, built around timing-based deflections and parries rather than pure offense, and holds an 86 out of 100 average on Metacritic alongside an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam, with many critics placing it in the same conversation as Hollow Knight in terms of quality. For subscribers yet to experience either of the latter two titles, May’s lineup represents exceptional value, with Nine Sols in particular being one of the most critically acclaimed independent titles of the past two years.
