Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) showcased Pakistan’s first Automated Fare Collection and Bus Scheduling System (AFC-BSS) at the Punjab Government’s two-day International Transport Expo 2025, held at the Lahore Expo Center. The presentation marked a significant step in introducing technology-driven solutions to improve the efficiency and transparency of public transport systems across Punjab. Senior PITB officials including Additional Directors Generals (ADGs) Syed Qasim Ifzal and Atif Hussain, Director Arsalan Manzoor, and Senior Program Managers (SPMs) Haroon Hafeez and Awais Arshad attended the event, highlighting the importance of the initiative to the province’s transport infrastructure.

The Automated Fare Collection and Bus Scheduling System aims to transform public mobility by offering commuters a streamlined, cashless, and transparent experience. Central to the system are innovative features such as the T-Cash Card and the e-Transit Punjab App, which together enable smart ticketing and travel planning. These tools are designed to simplify payment processes, eliminate manual cash handling, and provide real-time information about bus schedules. The digital ticketing solutions embedded in the system are intended to make fare collection more secure and reduce the chances of discrepancies, ensuring that both service operators and passengers benefit from greater clarity and accountability.

Through AFC-BSS, PITB seeks to modernize the transport ecosystem in Punjab by adopting digital methods that align with the government’s broader push for technological advancement. By integrating real-time bus scheduling and digital ticketing into a single platform, the system will allow commuters to plan their journeys more efficiently, while transport authorities can monitor fleet operations, manage schedules, and collect fares seamlessly. This initiative reflects a practical step towards using technology to address everyday challenges in public service delivery, such as delays, manual errors, and lack of transparent data.

In his message during the Expo, PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf emphasized that the Automated Fare Collection and Bus Scheduling System demonstrates how technology can deliver citizen-centric solutions by ensuring transparency, efficiency, and convenience in travel. He stated that the vision behind the initiative is to empower every commuter with smarter choices and to contribute to building a reliable and tech-driven transport ecosystem for Punjab. The two-day International Transport Expo 2025 brought together national and international stakeholders from the transport, mobility, safety, and technology sectors, offering a platform to showcase innovative solutions and emerging trends shaping the future of public transport. PITB’s participation highlighted its ongoing role in introducing digital innovations to support public institutions and improve urban mobility for citizens.
