Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) is actively working on a comprehensive National Fiberization Policy to bolster Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. This ambitious initiative aims to address the country’s growing digital demands by expanding high-speed internet access across urban and rural areas.

In collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the MoITT is conducting a thorough risk assessment of existing fiber optic networks to identify potential vulnerabilities and optimize network performance.

By deploying a robust fiber optic network, the policy will significantly enhance broadband connectivity, reduce the digital divide, and empower citizens with access to advanced digital services. This will have a positive impact on sectors such as education, healthcare, and e-governance.

Furthermore, the policy will support the adoption of emerging technologies like 5G and IoT, which rely on high-capacity networks. By investing in local manufacturing under the “Make in Pakistan” initiative, the policy aims to reduce reliance on imported optical fiber and related components, stimulating economic growth and job creation.

The MoITT’s efforts to implement this National Fiberization Policy are aligned with the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP). By prioritizing digital infrastructure development, Pakistan aims to improve its global rankings in ICT development and broadband connectivity, positioning itself as a competitive player in the global digital economy.
