Pakistan is gearing up to revolutionize its transportation sector with the establishment of 3,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country. This ambitious project is being undertaken in collaboration with a leading Chinese company, with an initial investment of $90 million.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Convenor of the Energy Standing Committee of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), announced this development at a ceremony held in Karachi. He highlighted the potential of this initiative to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on imported fossil fuels and mitigate environmental pollution.

The EV charging stations will be strategically located along major highways, including the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway. This will facilitate long-distance travel for EV owners, encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles.

The collaboration with the Chinese company is expected to bring in significant foreign direct investment to Pakistan. A further investment of $250 million is planned for the manufacturing of electric vehicles in the country. This investment will not only create jobs but also contribute to the development of a domestic EV industry.

The Sindh government has pledged its full support to this initiative, offering investors necessary facilities and incentives. This positive approach by the government has attracted significant interest from Chinese investors, who are actively exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan’s energy sector, particularly in areas like coal mining and renewable energy.

The establishment of a robust EV charging infrastructure is a crucial step towards promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan. By reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting clean energy, this initiative aligns with the country’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.
