Pakistan’s mobile phone market continues to grow, with the number of cellular subscribers reaching 192.32 million by the end of May 2024, according to data from PTA. This represents an increase of over 130,000 users compared to April 2024.
The growth is particularly strong in 3G and 4G adoption, with the number of users on these next-generation networks rising to 133.26 million by May end. This highlights a continued shift towards faster mobile internet access in the country.
However, there’s a slight dip to report in cellular teledensity, which measures mobile phone penetration per capita. The teledensity dropped to 79.48% in May from 79.55% in April. This could be due to a population increase outpacing subscriber growth.
The data also provides insights into individual mobile network operators. While Jazz saw a decline in 3G users, their 4G subscriber base increased. Zong, Telenor, and Ufone all followed a similar trend, with a decrease in 3G users and a rise in 4G adoption. This suggests a gradual phasing out of older technologies in favor of faster mobile broadband services.
