Pakistan is taking steps to fight false information on social media and improve cybersecurity. The government plans to install advanced firewalls on internet service providers’ (ISPs) networks.

PTA is seeking bids for next-generation firewalls and web application firewalls (WAFs) to be implemented over the next five years.

These firewalls aim to identify and block social media accounts spreading false information against Pakistani institutions. The next-generation firewalls, sourced from China, will come with features like advanced threat prevention, URL filtering, and secure virtual firewall systems.

Web application firewalls will provide additional protection by monitoring and filtering web traffic. Both types of firewalls will have multi-year warranties for uninterrupted service.

The next-generation firewalls offer a range of sophisticated capabilities beyond traditional firewalls. They can inspect data packets in detail, prevent intrusions, and control applications based on user and device type. They can also integrate with real-time threat intelligence to proactively defend against cyberattacks.

Web application firewalls add another layer of security by detecting and blocking cyber threats that hackers exploit. They also provide detailed reports to help identify attack patterns and develop better defenses.

This initiative highlights the Pakistani government’s commitment to tackling online misinformation and strengthening the country’s cybersecurity posture.
