The State Bank of Pakistan has suggested that overseas Pakistan who are invested In the future and growth of Pakistan, their homeland, should use Xoom, a service owned by PayPal, to send in their donations for the CJ-PM Daimer Basha and Mohmand Dams Fund, according to one source.

Five banks, NBP, MCB, Allied Bank, Bank Alfalah, and United Bank Limited, have made agreements with XOOM by Paypal for this very reason. This will solve the issue of the delayed transfer of receipts of money into the central bank’s account sent in by expatriates using their credit cards and debit cards. This service also offers immediate transfer from different countries to these five specific Pakistani banks.

It is imperative to mention here that the Finance Minister, Asad Omer, has hinted at the fact that PayPal might be launched in Pakistan within the next few months to cater to an increase in the amount of money being transferred to Pakistan for the dams.

This service can be used by going to this link. There is a step-by-step process mentioned on the site through XOOM in English and Urdu on Youtube.

So a total of Rs. 379 million has been received in the form of donations by overseas Pakistanis while an astounding Rs. 4.09 billion has been raised by resident Pakistanis as of October 2nd. So the breakdown of funds sent by overseas Pakistanis is as following:

  • Pakistanis in the USA donated: Rs. 138 million
  • Pakistanis in the UAE donated: Rs. 38.7 million
  • Pakistnis in the UK donated: Rs. 36.8 million
  • Pakistanis in Brazil donated: Rs. 2500
  • Pakistanis in Fiji donated: Rs. 25000
  • Pakistanis in India donated: Rs. 36000

So thus far the amount of money raised in total reached Rs. 4 billion on September 25th as Pakistanis continue to respond positively to the request of the PM and the initiative the CJP Saqib Nisar took to build the dams. In just about 2 months, State Bank of Pakistan said that the money raised by resident and expatriate Pakistanis reached Rs. 4.113 billion in just 2 months and 18 days.  The funds collected increased considerably due to the appeal of the PM which was televised and the fund raising campaign held in Karachi. So in the first 2 months it was just Rs. 2 billion in funds, but in the next 18 days it reached Rs. 4 billion, according to the statistics posted by the SBP.
