Both OPPO and Vivo are reportedly working on dedicated vlogging cameras to rival DJI’s Osmo Pocket series, with a new rumour from prominent Chinese leakster Digital Chat Station on Weibo claiming that both devices will feature a 200MP camera using a 1/1.12-inch type sensor. That sensor size is very specific and points toward Sony’s Lytia 901, unveiled last November, and both devices are also expected to carry flagship-level chipsets and support seamless interconnection with each brand’s respective smartphones. OPPO may co-brand its vlogging camera with Hasselblad, while Vivo may use Zeiss branding, leveraging the prestigious optical partnerships both companies have established through their flagship smartphone lines.
Somewhere inside BBK Electronics, the parent conglomerate that owns both brands, two product teams are independently building what is essentially the same camera. OPPO has a pocket gimbal device codenamed Fuyao in development, while Vivo has the device internally referred to as Vivo Pocket, reportedly fitted with a 200MP Sony sensor and headed for a late 2026 launch. Vivo has confirmed to Chinese media outlet Jiemian News that it is building its own dedicated vlogging camera to go against DJI’s established lineup, with the company having launched the project as an internal initiative in late 2025 and assembling a team of nearly 100 people to develop the portable camera, leveraging its existing know-how in mobile imaging including gimbal stabilisation and computational photography.
The timing is significant as it comes just as DJI previewed the dual-camera Osmo Pocket 4P at the Cannes Film Festival. Vivo’s current prototype features a large 1/1.1-inch Sony Lytia 901 sensor with a 200MP resolution, which would be a significant departure from the current gimbal camera standards of 1-inch sensors with lower megapixel counts, potentially positioning the Vivo Pocket as a genuine imaging upgrade over current market offerings rather than a me-too competitor. The competitive landscape is becoming increasingly crowded, with Insta360 also entering the same category through its Luna and Luna Ultra devices, and DJI expected to respond with the Osmo Pocket 4 and a possible Osmo Pocket 4 Pro alongside the already previewed Osmo Pocket 4P dual-camera model.
Whether BBK Electronics’ leadership views the parallel development of essentially the same product across two of its brands as healthy internal competition or an organisational blind spot depends entirely on one’s read of how the conglomerate actually operates. What is undeniable is that both devices are aimed squarely at the same target: DJI’s Osmo Pocket series, the device that has owned the pocket gimbal category for years. For creators, the entry of OPPO and Vivo into the dedicated creator camera segment represents a meaningful expansion of choice in a category that has long been dominated by a single brand, and if the leaked specifications prove accurate, both devices could bring a level of photographic capability not previously seen in the compact pocket gimbal format.
