The 3rd batch of the KP Civic Innovation Fellowship Program is set to revolutionize public service delivery through technology.

PESHAWAR – The third cycle of the KP Civic Innovation Fellowship Program is all set to launch, as a collaboration between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IT Board (KPITB), Code for Pakistan (CfP) and the The World Bank Group  at Durshal Government Innovation Lab in Peshawar, on the 7th of March.

The program kicked off in 2014, lasting six months per cohort, bringing together technology leads, software developers and domain experts from local government departments to improve government processes and citizen service delivery by leveraging technology.

KPITB, Code for Pakistan and the World Bank have successfully run two cycles of the KP Civic Innovation Fellowship Program with 30 graduated fellows. The fellowship teams partnered with seven government departments including the Traffic Police Department, Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Health Department, KPITB, DoIT, and Electricity Department to develop nine different open source applications, many of which continue to be utilized.

Following the success of the first two fellowship cycles, the Fellowship Program will enter its 3rd cycle this year, where top 20 have been selected out of 1000+ applications received.

For 2017, five teams of young innovators from the KP province have been selected to work with government departments to deliver solutions that improve service delivery. The government departments on board for this cycle are:

  1. Peshawar Traffic Police
  2. Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP)
  3. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB)
  4. Directorate of Industries and Commerce: Joint stock companies, firms and societies.
  5. KP Tourism
