Jolta Electric has signed a joint venture agreement with China’s G Force Group to manufacture and trade electric vehicle products in Pakistan, including plans for a new electric bike factory in Sheikhupura, Punjab. Under the agreement, Jolta Group will establish the manufacturing facility at Quaid-e-Azam Business Park, while G Force Group plans to set up a plant in Punjab for manufacturing batteries and electric vehicle charging stations. The agreement was signed in Lahore by G Force Group Director Zhang Rui and Jolta Group Chairman Dr. Muhammad Amjad, in the presence of Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain.
The proposed electric bike factory is expected to add to Punjab’s growing electric mobility manufacturing sector. The province has been encouraging local and foreign companies to invest in electric vehicles, battery production and charging infrastructure. The agreement also creates a framework for cooperation between the Chinese group and the Pakistani manufacturer, although details regarding the total investment, production capacity, construction schedule and expected operational date have not yet been disclosed.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said the provincial government was working to attract investment in electric vehicles and related industries. He highlighted the opportunities available in Punjab’s special economic zones and invited Chinese investors to establish manufacturing facilities for electric vehicle charging stations. The minister also said that additional local and international companies were investing in the province’s manufacturing sector, while electric bikes were being offered to consumers through installment financing arrangements provided by various banks.
The planned projects could support local manufacturing and create opportunities across the electric mobility supply chain, including vehicle assembly, battery production and charging infrastructure. Expanding these facilities may also help increase the availability of electric bikes in Pakistan as interest in alternatives to petrol-powered motorcycles grows. However, the scale of the projects’ impact will depend on their implementation, production capacity, pricing and the availability of supporting charging infrastructure. Further details about investment commitments and project timelines are yet to be announced.
