The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned citizens against buying and selling foreign SIM cards in Pakistan, declaring the practice illegal and highlighting the security risks associated with their use. In a public awareness message, the telecom regulator cautioned that foreign SIM cards can be misused for fraudulent activities and other unlawful purposes. The advisory urges mobile phone users to avoid transactions involving foreign SIM cards and ensure that their mobile connections comply with local registration requirements. The warning is part of the authority’s efforts to raise awareness about the misuse of mobile connections and encourage responsible telecom practices.

According to the PTA, foreign SIM cards may be exploited by individuals involved in fraud and other illegal activities. People who purchase or use such connections could face legal and security complications if the SIM cards are linked to unlawful conduct. The authority has highlighted the risks associated with using connections that are not properly registered under the local telecom framework. Such SIM cards can potentially be used to carry out fraudulent communications, creating risks for both the individuals using them and others who may be targeted through scams or other unlawful activities.

To reduce these risks, the PTA has advised the public to avoid buying or selling foreign SIM cards and use only locally registered SIM connections issued in their own names. The regulator has also urged mobile users to ensure that their SIM cards are properly registered and that the ownership information associated with their connections is accurate. The advisory emphasizes that users should obtain mobile connections through lawful channels rather than purchasing SIM cards from unauthorized sellers. Keeping SIM registration details accurate is important because mobile connections can be misused for activities that may expose users to legal complications.

The latest warning reinforces the PTA’s broader message about responsible use of mobile connections and the need to prevent telecom-related fraud. The authority has encouraged citizens to remain cautious when purchasing SIM cards and avoid using connections whose registration status or ownership is unclear. By relying on locally registered SIM cards issued in their own names, users can reduce the risks associated with unauthorized connections and potential misuse. The PTA has reiterated that avoiding the buying and selling of foreign SIM cards is necessary to help prevent fraud, protect users and discourage unlawful activities carried out through mobile networks.
