A growing number of Google Pixel owners are reporting a significant decline in battery performance and unexpected overheating following the deployment of the most recent system update. The issue, which appears to have been introduced with the March security patch, has surfaced across multiple generations of the device, including the Pixel 6, 7, and the flagship Pixel 8 series.

Users have documented instances where battery levels drop by double-digit percentages within an hour of idle time, often accompanied by a noticeable rise in the device’s temperature even when not in active use. Reports on community forums suggest that the battery drain bug is particularly prevalent when the devices are connected to mobile data, with “Mobile Network” and “System UI” frequently cited as the primary power consumers in system logs. This pattern of update-related regressions has occasionally hampered the user experience on Google’s custom Tensor-powered hardware, raising questions about the optimization of background processes in the latest software builds.

While Google has not yet issued a formal advisory or a specific hotfix, technical analysts suggest that the drain may be linked to an increase in background activity or a lack of modem efficiency following the firmware change. In the interim, some users have found temporary relief by disabling “Mobile Data Always Active” in developer options or switching their preferred network type to LTE to avoid the higher power overhead associated with unstable 5G signals. For many in the local market who rely on imported Pixel devices, these software-side issues are particularly critical due to the limited availability of official hardware support channels for diagnostic services.

The current situation highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining software stability across diverse hardware generations as Google continues to integrate more complex AI and on-device processing features. The developer community remains hopeful that a subsequent stability patch will be released in the coming weeks to address these thermal and power management issues. For now, affected users are advised to monitor their battery usage closely and report consistent failures through the official Android feedback tool to accelerate a resolution.
