Chinese DDR5 RAM Could Slash Memory Prices for Pakistan Gamers

Gamers and personal computer builders in Pakistan could be looking at a significant drop in memory prices if a major shift in the global DRAM supply chain plays out as a former Samsung senior executive has suggested. The executive recently stated that global memory chip rates could reverse the current 414 percent price hike if Chinese DDR5 RAM is allowed to be released everywhere, with full-scale deployment and distribution of China’s DDR5 production potentially triggering a massive decline in DRAM prices worldwide.

The implications for Pakistan’s gaming and personal computer market are considerable. Game-specific RAM is currently very expensive in Pakistan, with a good DDR5 RAM kit costing as much as PKR 250,000 to PKR 300,000. That price range places high-performance memory well beyond the reach of most local gamers and personal computer enthusiasts, who often have to settle for lower-tier configurations or pay a significant premium to import quality components through unofficial channels. The current pricing is largely a result of constrained global supply, with the DRAM market having seen sharp increases over the past couple of years driven by surging demand from artificial intelligence infrastructure, data centres, and consumer electronics.

China’s memory chip manufacturers, including companies like CXMT, have been scaling up DDR5 production capacity at a rapid pace, and if that output is allowed to enter global distribution networks freely, the resulting supply surge could fundamentally reshape pricing across all segments of the memory market. A seasoned computer shop operator based in Karachi told ProPakistani that if China starts sending high-end RAM to Pakistan, good game-grade memory could soon be available at a fraction of the current cost. Whether that scenario materialises will depend heavily on trade policy decisions in major markets, particularly around export restrictions and import regulations that currently limit the reach of Chinese memory products. For Pakistan’s gaming community, which has been growing steadily in both size and appetite for high-performance hardware, a meaningful drop in DDR5 pricing would represent one of the most impactful hardware affordability developments in recent years.
