The first Senior Management Course for officers of technical departments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has successfully concluded at the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, marking the completion of a twelve-week programme designed to strengthen leadership, governance, and institutional capacity among senior provincial civil servants. The course, which commenced on February 12, 2026, was organised by the university in collaboration with the Provincial Services Academy Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was mandatory for officers seeking promotion from Basic Pay Scale 19 to 20 in departments including irrigation, communication and works, excise and anti-narcotics, and science and information technology.

The closing ceremony brought together senior institutional figures who reflected on the programme’s significance for the future of public sector administration in the province. Prof Sadiq Khattak, Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, Muhammad Israr, Secretary of the Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department, and Muhammad Zubair Asghar Qureshi, Director General of the Provincial Services Academy, all praised the participants’ commitment and underscored the programme’s role in preparing officers for senior leadership and policy-level responsibilities. The speakers emphasised that ethical decision-making, strategic thinking, human-centred planning, and effective governance are essential capabilities for officials operating at the higher tiers of provincial administration.

A particular emphasis was placed on the need for public sector officers to embrace new technologies and digitisation as instruments for aligning government operations with global standards and addressing the evolving challenges facing the public sector in Pakistan. The speakers also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Provincial Services Academy, the university’s administration and faculty, and specifically recognised Dr Fayaz Ahmad Khan, Director of the Centre for Engineering Education and Communication, along with his team, for delivering a high-impact and practically oriented training programme tailored to contemporary administrative needs. The successful completion of the first Senior Management Course is expected to set a precedent for further structured training initiatives targeting technical department officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the provincial government continues to invest in building a more capable and forward-looking civil service.
