Wikipedia to Add Audio Clips 

The crowd-sourced online encyclopedia wants to add audio clips.   The brainchild of Wikipedia editor, Andy Mabbett, the Wikipedia Voice Intro Project (WikiVIP) has been announced. It asks people who are the subject of articles to upload audio clips, about 10 seconds long, that has them speaking. The clips will be added on to their pages.

 

PTCL to Invest in Largest Submarine Cable System

PTCL is investing in one of the largest international submarine cable consortium system. The new cable system, Asia Africa Europe (AAE-1), will add terabits of bandwidth to PTCL’s international capacity. “This global initiative marks our vision to cater for the growing broadband and data services requirements of Pakistan for both the consumer and corporate segments”, said PTCL CEO and President Walid Irshaid.

 

3G Auction to Add Billions of Dollars to National GDP

PTCL invested a lot and it is currently leading the broadband market by a long margin with its EvDO services. With upcoming 3G spectrum auction a large population will be able to transition towards broadband services through high-speed wireless data networks. This is a trend that is being followed in various other markets as well.

 

Wateen to Offer Managed VSAT Services to SBP

Wateen was awarded a three-year managed services contract by the State Bank of Pakistan to provide VSAT.  Wateen’s VSAT Bandwidth on Paksat Satellite will connect 15 SBP sites, aiding in reducing cost on distributed backend operations of the central bank. During this three year project, starting this month, Wateen Telecom will maintain Paksat satellite bandwidth and will provide 24-hour (SLA) services to the SBP.
