Sindh government has announced the launch of its Pink e-Bikes Program aimed at providing free electric bikes to women and students across the province. This week marks the rollout of the initiative, which has been developed to improve access to safe, affordable, and dignified transportation, reducing the dependence of women on public transport for education, employment, and daily activities. The program reflects efforts to address mobility challenges faced by women, ensuring they have reliable and secure transport options for their personal and professional lives.
The decision to implement the scheme was finalized during a meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The session was attended by key officials including Transport Secretary Asad Zaman and Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kanwal Bhutto, who reviewed the operational details of the Pink e-Bikes Program. Sharjeel Inam Memon highlighted that this initiative has been designed to help women save time and travel costs while improving their daily commute. According to him, the provincial administration views this program as a key part of its agenda to support women’s mobility and enable them to access education, jobs, and essential services more easily.
Officials involved in the project said that the scheme targets women and students who rely on public transport and aims to ease their commute with reliable electric bikes. Applications submitted to the Sindh Mass Transit Authority are currently being processed and verified to ensure only eligible candidates benefit from the scheme. The government has emphasized that the allocation of e-bikes will be conducted through a transparent mechanism, prioritizing merit and need. This approach is intended to maximize the number of beneficiaries and ensure fairness across the board while maintaining simplicity in the process so that students and working women can apply easily.
Sharjeel Inam Memon stressed the importance of encouraging women to become independent in every sphere of life and described the Pink e-Bikes Program as an important step in that direction. He urged students and working women to take full advantage of the scheme and highlighted that opportunities like these are designed to help women participate actively in educational, employment, and social activities. By providing them with safer, more affordable, and more reliable transportation, the provincial government aims to address some of the key barriers to mobility that women face, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas. Officials believe the program can enhance access to education and workplaces for women and students, contributing to broader goals of inclusion and empowerment while normalizing the use of electric vehicles in everyday transportation across the province.
