The Excise Department in Punjab has decided to bring token tax and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) challan payments under a unified digital system managed through traffic police as part of a broader initiative to streamline government payment services. The move is designed to improve transparency, reduce manual processing, and provide greater convenience to citizens who previously had to navigate multiple platforms and departments for vehicle related payments. Officials confirmed that the system will be implemented through a “One App” platform, which will allow users to pay traffic fines, token taxes, and other government dues within a single digital interface.
According to officials, the “One App” system will be rolled out across Punjab in phases starting next week, with initial integration focusing on key vehicle related services. The platform is designed to aggregate data from nine different government departments, enabling citizens to access comprehensive information about their pending dues through a unified search function. Users will be able to check outstanding payments by entering their vehicle number or by uploading an image of the number plate, making the system accessible for both digitally literate users and those relying on quick image based input methods. The integration is expected to reduce administrative delays and improve coordination between departments handling vehicle taxation, environmental compliance, and traffic enforcement.
DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir stated that the app has already been successfully used for digital traffic challans over the past two months and is now being expanded to include additional government payment categories. He highlighted that the system’s performance during its initial phase demonstrated its ability to handle large volumes of traffic violation data while ensuring accurate digital processing of fines. The expansion of the platform is aimed at building a more connected digital ecosystem where multiple government services can be accessed through a single interface, reducing the need for citizens to visit multiple offices or use separate systems for different payments.
Under the new mechanism, payments made through the PSID system will be directly transferred into the accounts of the respective departments without manual intervention, ensuring faster transaction processing and improved financial transparency. Officials emphasized that this direct transfer structure is intended to minimize delays in fund distribution while improving accountability across departments. The system also allows for real time tracking of payments, which is expected to reduce discrepancies and enhance monitoring of revenue collection from vehicle related services.
Authorities further confirmed that additional government departments will be integrated into the platform in the next phase, expanding the scope of the “One App” system beyond traffic related services. This future expansion will allow citizens to access a broader range of vehicle related information and payments through a single digital portal, creating a more centralized and efficient service delivery model. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen digital governance infrastructure in Punjab and improve the accessibility of public services through technology driven solutions.
