Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a formal warning to citizens against using illegal and foreign SIM cards, citing serious security threats, potential financial losses, and legal consequences. The regulator emphasized that calls and messages made through unregistered or unauthorized SIMs are prohibited and can compromise personal and financial information. According to PTA, such SIM cards are often linked to fraudulent activities, identity theft, and other unlawful communication, making users vulnerable to misuse.

In its advisory, PTA highlighted that individuals using illegally obtained SIMs could unintentionally become involved in transmitting unauthorized messages or participating in activities that may carry legal accountability. The authority urged consumers to avoid SIMs purchased through unverified sources, outsourcing arrangements, or channels that bypass proper biometric verification. Citizens have been instructed to ensure that all SIM cards in their possession are legally acquired and registered in their own names to maintain compliance with national telecom regulations.

PTA further noted that foreign SIMs operating within Pakistan present significant risks as they bypass local regulatory oversight. Users relying on such SIMs are exposed to possible data exploitation and financial vulnerabilities, as these connections operate outside the established monitoring framework of Pakistani telecom authorities. The regulator stressed that compliance with registration requirements is essential not only to prevent fraud but also to safeguard citizens from becoming unwitting participants in unlawful communications.

The advisory forms part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to address telecom-related fraud and misuse of mobile networks. The authority warned that strict actions may be taken against individuals found using illegal, unregistered, or foreign SIM cards within the country. By emphasizing lawful acquisition and registration, PTA aims to enhance data security, ensure transparency in communication services, and support a safer mobile ecosystem for all users.

Citizens have been reminded that adherence to telecom regulations is critical for protecting personal data and maintaining accountability in digital communication. PTA continues to encourage the public to verify the source of SIM cards and to comply with all registration procedures, highlighting that lawful use of mobile connections is necessary for both security and legal compliance. The authority’s advisory reinforces its commitment to reducing mobile fraud, protecting users’ financial and personal information, and ensuring that all communication services in Pakistan are used responsibly and in accordance with the law.

Through this initiative, PTA aims to strengthen regulatory oversight of the telecom sector while promoting awareness among consumers about potential risks associated with unauthorized SIM usage. The advisory underscores the importance of vigilance, proper registration, and adherence to established procedures to prevent security breaches, financial exploitation, and legal complications arising from unverified mobile connections.
