Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) have announced a collaborative effort to combat online blasphemy and ensure responsible internet usage.

In a meeting between Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman, and Chairman HEC, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, the focus was on raising awareness and preventing blasphemous activities on the internet and social media platforms. Both parties discussed strategies to disseminate this message effectively among university administration, faculty, and students, encouraging their active involvement in the cause.

Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman commended HEC’s initiative and affirmed PTA’s dedication to addressing challenges related to responsible cyberspace use. PTA has conducted consultative meetings with religious scholars and engaged with international organizations like UNICEF, TikTok, and Telenor Pakistan to tackle this issue.

The collaboration aims to curb the circulation of unlawful content online and promote productive internet activities among the youth.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed acknowledged PTA’s efforts in promoting safe online practices, highlighted by the recent SAMENA international LEAD award for ensuring child and youth safety online.

He also highlighted HEC’s initiatives, including ‘The Pakistan Education Research Network’ (PERN) and the establishment of 100 smart classrooms at universities, contributing to awareness about responsible and productive cyberspace usage, especially among youngsters.

Both PTA and HEC pledged enduring support for each other’s core national interests, reinforcing their commitment to combating online blasphemy and fostering responsible internet use.
