Following the completion of Pakistan’s first digital pilot census, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) and the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) have been instructed to draught a proposal so that a summary may be sent to the Council of Common Interest (CII) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in preparation for the nation’s first digital census ahead of the 2023 general elections.
These instructions were provided on Wednesday during a meeting that the Chief Statistician PBS and the Director General NADRA attended. The meeting was chaired by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal. Minister Iqbal was notified by the Chief Statistician that the digital pilot census was successfully completed.
According to DG NADRA, Pakistan will get the first shipment of machinery needed for the census from China on August 20. The involved employees would then undergo training for the census after that, he added.
In addition to involving academics and college students in the training process, the minister gave the authorities instructions to conduct independent training verification.
Additionally, he demanded that a new voter list be created by July 1, 2023, to aid the ECP in arranging elections.
