Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif committed on Monday to providing significant resources to Pakistan’s youth, with the goal of transforming the country into a developed and thriving nation. Speaking at an event organized by the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme to mark the International Day of Youth, the Prime Minister announced a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at empowering the younger generation.
Among the key announcements was a plan to distribute one million smartphones to high-achieving students across the country this year, a gesture described by the Prime Minister as a gift from the federal government. He emphasized the critical role of the nation’s youth in propelling Pakistan to new heights, provided they have access to modern education and resources.
The Prime Minister outlined his vision of equipping talented young people with education in fields such as Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, drawing parallels with the transformative progress seen in China. He expressed concern over the country’s current economic challenges, noting that despite 77 years of independence and abundant resources, Pakistan remains heavily indebted, with many citizens unable to afford basic necessities.
In a significant gesture of support for agricultural advancement, Shehbaz Sharif announced that he would personally fund the education of 1,000 agricultural graduates in China, enabling them to learn modern technologies to boost agricultural production. He also highlighted Huawei’s commitment to providing IT training and advanced education to 200,000 Pakistani youth.
During the event, the Prime Minister launched several key initiatives, including the Commonwealth Youth Alliance Secretariat in Islamabad, the Digital Learning Portal, the PM Green Youth Movement, and the AI for Youth Programme, which will offer Intel-certified skills to young people. He also announced plans to unveil a comprehensive development plan for the country on August 14, aimed at addressing some of the nation’s most pressing challenges.
