Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to boosting Pakistan’s IT sector, emphasizing that the country’s skilled workforce has the potential to compete in the global market. Speaking during a meeting with a delegation led by Jerome Kapelus, CEO of the US multinational IT company Afiniti, the premier highlighted the government’s efforts to provide the necessary facilities to achieve an ambitious IT export target of $25 billion. The meeting, attended by Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja and senior officials, underscored Pakistan’s growing appeal as an investment destination for the global tech industry.

Welcoming Afiniti’s interest in expanding its operations in Pakistan, PM Shehbaz encouraged the company to establish a world-class call center catering to national and international clients. He assured the delegation that the government is personally overseeing programs to equip the country’s youth with cutting-edge skills in IT, artificial intelligence, and other advanced technologies. The prime minister stressed that investing in digital skills would not only strengthen Pakistan’s economy but also create vast employment opportunities for the younger generation.

Jerome Kapelus expressed his appreciation for the talent and dedication of Pakistani IT professionals, highlighting their significant contributions to Afiniti’s global success. He stated that Pakistan’s IT sector offers an attractive environment for investment and business growth. Currently, Afiniti Pakistan employs over 1,000 highly skilled professionals, and Kapelus believes this number could increase as the company expands its footprint in the region. He acknowledged the immense potential of Pakistani youth in driving technological innovation and noted that Afiniti’s success in the country has been largely due to the availability of a professional and well-trained workforce.

The meeting reflects growing investor confidence in Pakistan’s IT sector, as multinational companies recognize the country’s potential as a key player in the global digital economy. The government’s continued efforts to provide incentives, streamline regulations, and develop human capital are expected to play a vital role in achieving its ambitious IT export goals.
