In a recent progress review meeting led by Chairman PITB Faisal Yousaf, the Pakistan Animal Identification & Traceability System (PAITS), a national database for livestock, reported the successful registration of 65,698 animals and 7,158 premises for the Livestock & Dairy Development Department. Developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in collaboration with the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), PAITS is currently undergoing a pilot phase in Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Baluchistan, Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir.
Chairman PITB Faisal Yousaf emphasized the system’s impact on livestock identification, traceability, and health monitoring during the meeting, stating, “PAITS is successfully assisting multiple stakeholders in Livestock Identification, Traceability, and their Health Monitoring with the underlying objective to boost exports.”
The comprehensive repository operates nationwide, maintaining and updating authentic data on the registration, identification, records, monitoring, and traceability of animals throughout their life cycle. Integrated with a Web Portal and a Mobile App, PAITS offers various features to benefit stakeholders, including updated livestock information, identification of better-yielding breeds, and animal health monitoring.
Additionally, PAITS plays a crucial role in supporting timely decision-making for the department in areas such as animal exports and imports, prevention of animal theft, and epidemic prevention. The system’s efficiency in these areas is contributing to the enhancement of the overall livestock sector in Pakistan.
