iPhone users in Pakistan can now access fifth-generation services on Zong’s network by installing iOS 26.5 Public Beta, directly contradicting widespread reports that iPhone fifth-generation support would remain unavailable in the country until 2027. Testing conducted near Zong fifth-generation towers in select coverage areas delivered download speeds between 244 megabits per second and 290 megabits per second with upload speeds of approximately 76 megabits per second, marking the first confirmed instance of operational fifth-generation connectivity on Apple devices in Pakistan. Zong currently represents the only Pakistani telecom operator that has fulfilled the technical requirements set by Apple for enabling fifth-generation services on iPhones, with users carrying fifth-generation supported iPhone models and Zong subscriber identity module cards able to access the service in areas where the operator has deployed compatible towers. Jazz, Ufone, and other operators have yet to announce equivalent iPhone fifth-generation support despite having launched fifth-generation services for Android devices.
The activation process requires users to enrol in Apple’s Beta Software Program through the Safari browser, enable beta updates within the iPhone’s software update settings, and install iOS 26.5 Public Beta. Following installation, fifth-generation coverage can be verified through the My Zong application, which includes a dedicated coverage map showing supported areas. Users must also manually enable either the fifth-generation Auto or fifth-generation On option from the Voice and Data settings under the Cellular Data Options menu to activate the feature. Industry sources confirmed that existing fourth-generation data packages appear functional on the new fifth-generation network without requiring any additional subscription or separate package activation, and that speed tests suggest users can expect performance approaching 300 megabits per second under favourable conditions near Zong towers. The rollout remains limited in geographic coverage as Zong continues expanding its fifth-generation infrastructure deployment toward a target of over 1,000 sites nationwide in 2026, with commercial services already active in more than 16 cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta.
Alternative methods for enabling iPhone fifth-generation connectivity in Pakistan have proven ineffective. Approaches including network switching through foreign subscriber identity module cards, modifications to the operating system, virtual private network location spoofing, manual access point name configuration, and third-party applications do not successfully enable fifth-generation on iPhones, as Apple controls fifth-generation activation through carrier-specific settings embedded within iOS updates. Hardware capability alone does not guarantee network access without official carrier certification, and industry experts emphasised that waiting for Apple’s official carrier settings update through stable iOS releases remains the most reliable long-term solution for mainstream users who wish to avoid the instability associated with pre-release software. Apple reportedly informed Pakistani authorities that it plans to enable fifth-generation services for iPhone users in 2027 after reviewing the country’s market size and adoption trends, with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication stating that Apple prioritises a phased rollout of advanced network features based on regional readiness and commercial sustainability. Telecom industry analysts noted, however, that discussions with other operators suggest broader iPhone fifth-generation support could arrive sooner than the 2027 timeline, with Jazz and Ufone potentially introducing similar beta testing programmes in the coming months as they complete their own technical certification processes with Apple, and a full nationwide rollout across all carriers potentially arriving by late 2026 or early 2027.
