In an effort towards fostering technological innovation, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Umar Saif, led the foundation-laying ceremony for the Indigenous Research and Development Agency (IRADA) at the National Science and Technology Park, NUST.

Highlighting the indispensable role of technology in catalyzing innovation and enhancing efficiency across industries, Minister Saif emphasized the imperative for collaboration among Pakistan’s defense sector, academia, and industry. He underscored that IRADA seeks to formalize and institutionalize these connections, creating a conducive environment for collaborative technological advancements.

During the ceremony, Dr. Saif Umar outlined his vision for IRADA, envisioning a collaborative effort involving NUST, universities, industry, and the defense sector. He emphasized the potential for joint projects and products that could be commercialized, contributing significantly to Pakistan’s economic development.

In a historical context, Minister Saif drew parallels to technological milestones such as Russia’s launch of Sputnik in 1957 and the subsequent establishment of DARPA by the USA. He pointed to the success of connecting the defense sector, academia, and industry, leading to transformative technologies like the Internet, GPS, and cryptography.

Dr. Saif Umar disclosed that NUST has graciously agreed to host IRADA, providing the essential ecosystem for its success. The Ministry of Science and Technology will fund and support IRADA as an independent entity, reinforcing the government’s commitment to advancing technological initiatives.

This initiative is poised to bring together leading minds from academia, defense, and industry, propelling Pakistan’s technological landscape forward and contributing to sustained economic growth. IRADA, with its collaborative framework, is anticipated to play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge technologies that have the potential to shape the future of the nation.
