Pakistan Science Foundation has announced the launch of its First National Contest for Need‑Based Technologies 2026, opening a new platform for young innovators across the country to present original solutions aimed at addressing pressing real‑world challenges. The foundation, known for fostering science, innovation, and creativity among school and university students, said the contest is designed to encourage applied science and technology projects that are practical, impactful, and capable of making a meaningful difference in everyday life. Participants are expected to submit working models or physical prototypes that demonstrate both originality and feasibility, reinforcing the contest’s focus on addressing local and national needs through technological innovation.
The contest is structured into two categories to accommodate a wide range of participants: the first category is open to students from Grade Seven through Grade Twelve, including those at the secondary and higher secondary school levels, who may enter individually or in groups of up to three members. A registration fee of two thousand rupees applies per individual or group in this category. The second category is aimed at university students enrolled in Bachelor of Science or Master of Science programmes at any public or private institution recognised by the Government of Pakistan, with individual or group participation permitted and a registration fee of five thousand rupees. By dividing the contest into these distinct levels, PSF hopes to cultivate innovation at both foundational and advanced stages of education and research.
Cash prizes have been announced for top performers in both categories, providing tangible incentives for excellence and innovation. In the school‑level category, the first prize is set at two hundred thousand rupees, the second prize at one hundred fifty thousand rupees, and the third at one hundred thousand rupees. University‑level participants will compete for larger rewards, with a first prize of five hundred thousand rupees, a second prize of three hundred thousand rupees, and a third prize of one hundred thousand rupees. PSF has emphasised that these prizes will be awarded solely to projects that are original, clearly presented, and practically viable, reinforcing the contest’s emphasis on quality and impact.
All working models and physical products must be delivered to the PSF office at Constitution Avenue in Islamabad by the deadline of April 30 2026. Entries received after this date will not be considered, and the decisions of the contest jury will be deemed final in all matters. Application forms and further details are available for download on the official PSF website at psf.gov.pk. Young innovators and researchers with questions can contact the Principal Scientific Officer via email or phone for assistance. By providing this forum and support, PSF aims to encourage a culture of innovation, inspire the next generation of technologists, and connect Pakistan’s youth with opportunities to contribute solutions to challenges that affect communities and industries across the country.
