At a panel hosted by IBA Karachi titled, The AI Imperative: Confronting Challenges, Creating Opportunities, Jazz Chief Strategy Officer Ali Naseer shared insights on how Pakistan can fully benefit from artificial intelligence. Alongside industry leaders Asif Peer and Nadeem Elahi, the discussion focused on AI’s growing influence on business strategy, workforce development, and national competitiveness. Naseer emphasized that Pakistan’s AI progress relies on coordinated efforts across people, policy, and product.

For the people dimension, Naseer highlighted the importance of expanding local talent pipelines and strengthening the country’s skills ecosystem. He stressed that Pakistan must develop its own AI solutions rather than rely solely on foreign technologies. Investing in education, training, and skills development will enable professionals to contribute directly to AI innovations, while creating a foundation for sustainable growth across the digital economy.

On the policy front, Naseer underlined the necessity of robust governance structures and trusted frameworks for data collection and use. He pointed out that national policies must protect digital sovereignty while simultaneously allowing innovation to thrive. Without these foundational policies, AI adoption risks remaining fragmented and its impact limited. The discussion emphasized that strong governance and clear regulations are critical to establishing trust among businesses, consumers, and government institutions.

Regarding products, Naseer said Pakistan should prioritize scaling AI applications that address local challenges and opportunities. From enhancing network efficiency to improving customer experiences and expanding digital services, technology must deliver tangible value across industries. Drawing on insights from his recent visit to China, he highlighted that countries progress faster when academia, industry, and government work in alignment and ecosystem partners pursue shared innovation goals. He noted that Jazz’s own integration of AI into its operations demonstrates how telecom operators can contribute to national AI advancement.

The panel concluded that AI has already moved into mainstream use and will continue to shape economic and technological outcomes in Pakistan. Naseer reinforced that advancing AI requires synchronized efforts in developing talent, establishing enabling policies, and scaling relevant products. Jazz continues to engage with these areas, aiming to support Pakistan’s digital growth while ensuring AI adoption brings practical benefits to businesses and society.
