Mobile phone users in Pakistan won’t be able to register new devices or make changes to existing registrations this weekend due to a scheduled maintenance period for the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS).
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced the system will be unavailable from 8:00 pm on Friday, April 19th, 2024, until 6:00 am on Sunday, April 21st, 2024. PTA assures users this is a proactive measure to improve and maintain DIRBS, a system critical for registering and blocking mobile devices within the country.
“The PTA apologizes for any inconvenience caused and is committed to providing a seamless experience for its users,” the official statement reads.
The DIRBS system was launched by the PTA to combat smuggled mobile phones and to maintain a record of all active mobile devices in Pakistan.
