Karachi – While basic internet speeds are generally available in Pakistan, users continue to face unstable connections, slow loading during peak hours, laggy video calls, disrupted online gaming, and delays when accessing international sites. The quality of broadband service depends heavily on the network improvements implemented by providers, leaving users frustrated with inconsistent performance.
In response, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a stern warning to several fixed broadband providers after a nationwide survey revealed significant shortcomings in network performance during the fourth quarter of 2025. The survey highlighted concerns regarding service reliability, including network availability, latency, and jitter, which continue to affect millions of users across the country.
Core node performance was found below mandatory thresholds for Classic Broadband, Net Cloud Telecom, and Khan Telecommunications, while access node issues impacted Classic Broadband and Net Cloud Telecom. Latency, a key factor for smooth browsing and online applications, was excessively high for Cyber Internet Services and Air Touch Wireless on local routes, with Global Connect Synergy, Nasstec Airnet, Cyber Internet Services, and Wancom exceeding international latency benchmarks. These findings point to inefficient routing and weaknesses in backbone networks.
Video calls and online gaming were also affected, with PTCL, Global Xperts, and Nasstec Airnet showing jitter levels above permissible limits. Peak-hour congestion led to slowdowns, although overall bandwidth utilization remained below 80%. On a positive note, all operators delivered minimum speed requirements of at least 4 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload, ensuring basic broadband functionality despite performance gaps.
The PTA instructed all non-compliant providers to urgently expand network capacity to reduce congestion, optimize routing for both local and international traffic, and strengthen network redundancy to ensure consistent service reliability. The authority emphasized that failure to comply could result in strict regulatory action. Continuous monitoring will remain in place to protect consumer interests and maintain quality of service standards across Pakistan’s broadband sector.
The operators mentioned in the survey include Classic Broadband, Net Cloud Telecom, Khan Telecommunications, Cyber Internet Services, Air Touch Wireless, Global Connect Synergy, Nasstec Airnet, PTCL, Global Xperts, and Wancom.
