Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level meeting in Islamabad with a visiting delegation from the prominent Chinese space technology company GalaxySpace, led by its Chairman, Xu Ming. The discussion marked a significant step toward deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of space and satellite technology, with the Chinese delegation expressing a strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s growing space technology industry.
During the meeting, both parties explored wide-ranging avenues for collaboration in key areas such as satellite development, advanced telecommunications, and satellite-based internet services. These sectors are seen as critical components of modern digital infrastructure, and the talks underscored the growing strategic significance that Pakistan attributes to its space ambitions. Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing and trusted relationship with China, describing it as a cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy and development agenda. He emphasized that Pakistan places immense strategic value on the growth and advancement of its space technology capabilities, not only for economic development but also for national security and scientific progress.
The Chinese side conveyed optimism about Pakistan’s potential in the space technology sector and discussed the possibility of initiating joint ventures with local institutions, including the country’s primary space agency, SUPARCO, and various private telecom companies. In sharing the outcomes of their engagements in Pakistan, members of the GalaxySpace delegation described their meetings with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) as both constructive and forward-looking. They appreciated the openness and enthusiasm demonstrated by Pakistani officials, and expressed confidence in the long-term potential of these interactions to yield practical and impactful outcomes in the near future.
The meeting was attended by a number of key Pakistani officials who underscored the government’s commitment to facilitating international investment in high-tech sectors. Among those present were Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima. Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr. Tauqir Shah, Secretary IT and Telecom Zarar Hashim, Chairman of PTA Hafeez Rehman, and Member Telecom Muhammad Jahanzeb also participated in the discussions, reflecting the cross-departmental priority being placed on advancing space and communication technologies.
