Orbit-ed is an Islamabad based technology based educational startup that is trying to bring augmented reality in to the classrooms. They are trying to use AR to recreate school curriculum to make it more interactive i.e. by creating a smartphone app for 3D visualization of textbooks.
The startup claims that this will enable students to pay better attention to their books and course work. Through this app, if the kids are to learn about the human respiratory system instead of looking at diagrams on a textbook they’d be able to view a 3D figure of the system. Furthermore, one would be able to step in to the organs and see how they work!
Interested schools can sign up for a demo on their website to partner with the startup. When one signs up, Orbit-ed will work on the curriculum and create 3D content in AR for the school.
Orbit-ed is the brainchild of Navera Waheed and Wajiha Habeeb from National University of Sciences and Technology Incubation Center. They started working on the startup back in 2016. Furthermore, they have also graduated from the Startupbootcamp, one of the largest accelerators for startups in Europe that is based in Netherlands.
Navera speaking to a local newspaper also revealed that they have joined LearnLaunch, a edtech specialist accelerator in Boston that will help them start their journey in the US.
Their business model consists of a per user subscription price of six Euros a year. However the team is working on flexible prices for bulk orders. Orbit-ed is currently bootstrapped and hopes to raise $500000 in the near future.
With the adoption tech in Pakistani schools being limited to none, speaking to the local news they said that they are in talks with the Head Start School System but haven’t gotten anywhere and so far they haven’t received any response from the education minister as well. However they already have a base in Europe and soon in the US.
