The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) has once again demonstrated its commitment to empowering young leaders by participating in the Young Peace and Development Corps (YPDC) Fellowship Program 2025. Organized by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives (MoPDSI) under the URAAN Pakistan initiative, the national fellowship serves as a platform to cultivate youth leadership, foster peacebuilding, and encourage policy dialogue. Designed as a flagship program for emerging leaders from across the country, YPDC aims to equip participants with essential skills in governance, social innovation, and inclusive development, preparing them to play an active role in shaping Pakistan’s future.
NUMS, recognized for its dedication to civic responsibility, leadership development, and community engagement, actively supported its student representative’s participation in the fellowship. The university continues to promote experiential learning and national engagement opportunities that align with its mission to develop socially conscious professionals. Through its consistent encouragement of student participation in leadership initiatives, NUMS provides avenues for young individuals to apply classroom learning in real-world scenarios, where their contributions can have a meaningful social impact.
NUMS’ involvement in the fellowship was facilitated under the guidance of Dr. Tara Khursheed from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, who serves as the Focal Person for YPDC. Her mentorship and coordination ensured that the university maintained an active role throughout the program. Representing NUMS, Mr. Mohsin Ali, a 5th-semester student of BS Emergency and Clinical Medicine, attended the YPDC Fellowship Program in Islamabad from August 12th to 19th, serving both as a Fellow and Coordinator of the YPDC NUMS Chapter. His participation highlighted the growing engagement of medical and health sciences students in broader policy and governance discussions, demonstrating NUMS’ holistic approach to education that extends beyond the classroom.
The fellowship brought together 131 student leaders from various universities across Pakistan for a week-long series of training sessions, institutional visits, and collaborative projects. Participants engaged in intensive learning experiences focusing on leadership, governance, social inclusion, and peacebuilding. Through his active involvement in group discussions, policy dialogues, and project presentations, Mr. Mohsin Ali effectively represented NUMS’ vision of youth empowerment and civic responsibility. His contributions underscored the importance of youth-led initiatives in promoting national unity, sustainable development, and peacebuilding efforts.
By taking part in such initiatives, NUMS continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution fostering leadership, community service, and social impact among its students. The university’s participation in the YPDC Fellowship 2025 reflects its broader goal of preparing students not only as healthcare professionals but also as socially responsible citizens equipped to address national challenges through innovation, collaboration, and ethical leadership.
