Prof. Dr. Nosherwan Shoaib, faculty member and Head of Department at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the National University of Sciences and Technology, has received the IEEE Region 10 Outstanding Medium Section Award 2025 at the IEEE Region 10 Annual General Meeting held in Kitakyushu, Japan. The award was presented by IEEE President Mary Ellen Randall and IEEE Region 10 Director Takako Hashimoto during the annual general meeting, recognising the IEEE Islamabad Section’s outstanding performance and contributions under Prof. Shoaib’s leadership as Section Chair.
IEEE Region 10, which encompasses the Asia-Pacific geography and is one of the largest and most active regions within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers globally, holds its Annual General Meeting to convene section chairs, volunteers, and IEEE leadership to review regional progress and recognise exemplary contributions to the organisation’s mission of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The Outstanding Medium Section Award is awarded to sections that have demonstrated excellence in member engagement, technical activities, professional development programmes, and community impact over the assessed period, making it one of the most meaningful recognitions available to an IEEE section within Region 10’s competitive landscape.
For the IEEE Islamabad Section, which operates across Pakistan’s capital and the surrounding region and engages thousands of engineering and technology professionals, students, and academics, the award represents a significant acknowledgement of the quality and consistency of its programmes and the strength of its volunteer-driven activities over the 2025 cycle. Under Prof. Shoaib’s leadership as Section Chair, the Islamabad Section has continued to expand its technical events, student branch engagement, and professional development offerings in a manner that clearly distinguished it among the medium-sized sections competing for the same recognition across the Asia-Pacific region.
NUST extended its congratulations to Prof. Shoaib, expressing pride in the recognition his leadership and the IEEE Islamabad Section’s collective effort have brought to the institution and to Pakistan’s engineering community on an international platform. The award reinforces NUST’s position as a hub of engineering excellence and academic leadership, with its faculty playing influential roles not only within the institution but across global professional organisations that shape the standards and direction of the engineering and technology disciplines.
