The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has given the green light to the elimination of three MP-2 positions within the department, as per sources familiar with the matter.

Following discussions in the latest board meeting, NITB has sanctioned the proposed organogram, signaling the introduction of a Chief Operating Officer role to oversee the department’s general cadre of posts.

Acknowledging the redundancy of the MP scale positions in the revamped organizational structure, the board reached a consensus to abolish them.

Effective immediately, the termination of the three MP-2 positions is underway, with plans to complete the hiring process according to the new organizational framework by June 2024. Currently, two officials occupy MP-2 grade positions, while one position remains vacant within the department.

Sources also reveal that the tenure of one DG NITB is set to conclude in August this year. Concerns have been raised about the department’s performance over the past few years, with allegations of incompetence among its senior management.
