Pakistan’s startup ecosystem is witnessing a defining moment as the country’s largest startup induction nears its grand finale at the National Incubation Centre (NIC) Karachi, located at NED University of Engineering and Technology (NEDUET). Over the past eight days, more than 125 startups have been competing for a place in NIC Karachi’s 13th Cohort, with the final selection set to be announced on Friday, March 21.

The high-stakes event, which spans ten days, has brought together some of Pakistan’s brightest entrepreneurs, visionary investors, and leading industry experts. Aspiring startups have been pitching their groundbreaking ideas to a distinguished panel of judges, aiming to secure one of the coveted spots in the incubation program. With five minutes to present their business and an additional five-minute question-and-answer session, the competition is fierce.

A total of 125-150 startups have participated, but only 35-40 will be selected for NIC Karachi’s latest cohort. The event is not just about selecting promising ventures—it is a showcase of Pakistan’s entrepreneurial potential, highlighting cutting-edge solutions in artificial intelligence, industrial automation, fintech, cybersecurity, healthcare, and sustainability. With over 60 independent industry leaders evaluating the pitches, the event has become a crucial driver of investment, collaboration, and industry transformation. One of the key themes of this year’s induction has been industrial automation. On Wednesday, startups in this sector took center stage, presenting next-generation solutions in manufacturing, robotics, and smart infrastructure. Over 17 industrial automation startups participated, impressing a panel of industry experts, including Khalid Pervez of KPWS Consulting, Nida Farid of Save Joules, Saadia Kazmi of Watsun Engineering and Solutions, and Iftikhar Arif of M&P Logistics.

These experts emphasized the importance of locally developed, cost-effective automation solutions in reducing reliance on expensive imports. They also praised NIC Karachi’s role in mentoring and supporting startups, enabling them to scale their businesses, expand globally, and contribute to Pakistan’s economic stability by bringing in foreign exchange. Among the standout startups, ‘RILITS’ is making significant strides in industrial automation, while ‘Electric Ark’ is developing electric-powered boats to modernize Pakistan’s maritime sector. ‘Sortech Incorporation’ is working on fire hazard detection through advanced imaging technology, and ‘Manufacturing.pk’ is creating a dedicated digital marketplace for Pakistan’s manufacturing industry, streamlining procurement and supply chains.

With such promising innovations emerging from this induction, NIC Karachi continues to establish itself as a key player in fostering Pakistan’s tech-driven industrial growth. The overwhelming response to the program, with nearly 600 applications received, signals a positive trend in Pakistan’s entrepreneurial landscape. Industry veteran Abdul Sattar Jumani, CEO of Yunus Energy and a Governance Committee member of NIC Karachi, highlighted the importance of such initiatives. He noted that Pakistan experienced a major entrepreneurial boom in the 1960s and that incubators like NIC Karachi have the potential to spark a similar wave of innovation. Jumani expressed optimism that the selected startups could play a crucial role in transforming Pakistan into a tech-driven economy.

NIC Karachi’s Project Director, Syed Azfar Hussain, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the ongoing induction is a showcase of Pakistan’s brightest entrepreneurial talent. He noted that the final two days would determine which startups secure a place in the cohort, solidifying NIC Karachi’s role as a hub for nurturing Pakistan’s future tech leaders. Throughout the event, strong founders have presented transformative ideas across multiple industries. A special focus was placed on women-led startups, which were given dedicated pitching opportunities earlier in the week. Over 100 startups have already made their case, showcasing innovations in AI, e-commerce, sustainability, and healthcare.

As the event moves into its final phase, the focus shifts to high-impact sectors like fintech and cybersecurity. On Thursday, fintech startups will present disruptive solutions in digital banking, blockchain, AI-powered banking, and financial inclusion. On Friday, the spotlight will be on cybersecurity, with startups unveiling cutting-edge defense mechanisms, AI-driven risk mitigation strategies, and secure digital infrastructure solutions. With just two days remaining, anticipation is building as Pakistan’s most promising startups make their final pitches. As NIC Karachi prepares to select its 13th Cohort, the event is setting the stage for a new era of innovation, investment, and technological advancement in Pakistan’s entrepreneurial landscape.
