PR: Daraz.pk, Rocket Internet’s e-commerce venture, announced today that Former Vice President of Lazada, Zain Suharwardy, has joined the team as the Managing Director for Daraz Pakistan.

In this role, Suharwardy is eager to bring his signature managerial oversight and intuition he gained from years of experience at the biggest South East Asian e-commerce companies to Daraz:

“It is an exciting time to be at Daraz and I look forward to steering the company toward new growth opportunities, capitalizing on my experience in the ecommerce industry. I strongly feel the next success story in ecommerce will be from Pakistan. When you have 200 million people, which include the brightest minds, to serve you can’t go wrong, but to win you need to be efficient, fast, structured and above all Customer centric, and that is what I, along with the team, will be hoping to achieve”.

Suharwardy, a startup maverick, media personality and all around multi-hyphenate brings on board his experience in building ecommerce ventures from the ground up. His vast regional expertise in South East Asia has taken him from gestating companies like Lazada Malaysia (part of Alibaba Group) and 11 Street to networking with a cluster of SEA countries like Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam while also being involved in the growth of Rocket Internet venture Zalora in Malaysia.

Suharwardy is the consummate millennial networker, not letting borders or barriers of brick and mortar circumscribe his entrepreneurial vision. It is this vision that, once translated, saw Lazada experience exponential growth under his stewardship, leading ultimately to the company’s acquisition by Alibaba – Lazada is Southeast Asia’s largest online shopping mall and part of Alibaba Group- the world’s largest ecommerce company.

In the same vein, Suharwardy’s dynamic career has led him from the boardroom to the studio; having headed the business news operations of a commerce-centered channel, all the while accruing and updating in-depth knowledge of best practices and business solutions.
